How to Make Money Trading Forex in Ghana (2026)

How to make money trading forex in Ghana in 2026: legality, the best broker for mobile money, one beginner scalping strategy, and honest earnings.

How to make money trading forex in Ghana on a mobile trading app

To make money trading forex in Ghana you open an account with an internationally licensed broker that accepts Ghanaian clients, fund it with MTN Mobile Money or a bank card, learn one simple strategy on a demo account, then trade small with strict risk control. The honest version: forex is legal to trade in Ghana, but no local regulator licenses retail brokers yet, and most beginners lose money before they learn to keep it.

The short answer: Sign up with a broker like Exness that serves Ghana and takes mobile money, practice one scalping strategy on demo for 30 days, risk no more than 1% per trade, and start with $50 to $100. Expect small, slow gains at first, not a salary. Consistency beats a big deposit every time.

Yes, forex trading is legal in Ghana. There is no law banning individuals from trading currencies online. What Ghana does not yet have is a local regulator that licenses retail forex brokers, so Ghanaians trade through offshore-licensed brokers instead. That is the whole grey area in one sentence.

The Bank of Ghana oversees the interbank foreign exchange market and approved FX dealers. The Securities and Exchange Commission of Ghana regulates capital markets, and in early 2026 it presented draft guidelines aimed at bringing retail forex and CFD brokers under formal supervision, according to the ForexBrokers.com Ghana guide. Until those rules land, your protection comes from the broker’s foreign license, not a Ghanaian one. So the broker you choose is not a small decision, it is the decision.

What you need to start trading forex in Ghana

You need five things: a phone or laptop with internet, a broker that accepts Ghanaian clients, a funded account, one strategy you actually understand, and enough patience to lose on a demo first. Notice that money is only one item on that list, and not the most important one.

What you need Detail Cost to start
Device + internet Any smartphone runs the MT5 app fine You likely own this already
Broker account Offshore-licensed, accepts Ghana, MoMo funding Free to open
Demo account Practice with fake money, same platform $0
First live deposit Start small, money you can afford to lose $50 to $100
A charting tool TradingView for cleaner charts and alerts Free plan works

Do it yourself first. Open the demo, trade fake money for a month, and only fund a live account once your demo is green two months running. The people who skip this step are the same people who later write angry reviews about “the market being rigged.”

How to choose a broker that works in Ghana

Pick a broker with a strong offshore license (FCA, CySEC or FSCA in the group), instant MTN Mobile Money and AirtelTigo Money funding in cedis, low minimum deposit, and tight spreads on major pairs. In Ghana the practical shortlist is short, because most global brokers that accept Ghanaians route local clients through a Seychelles FSA entity. That is normal, just know it.

I use and recommend Exness for Ghana. It accepts Ghanaian clients, supports GHS accounts, and takes MTN MoMo, Telecel Cash and AirtelTigo Money with near-instant deposits and withdrawals. Group regulation includes the FCA (UK), CySEC (Cyprus) and FSCA (South Africa), with international clients served under the FSA of Seychelles, and client funds held separately from company money.

Feature What to look for Exness (Ghana)
Accepts Ghana Must accept Ghanaian ID and address Yes
Funding MTN MoMo, AirtelTigo, cards MoMo + Telecel + cards, in GHS
Minimum deposit Under $50 to start safely From about $10
Platform MT4 / MT5 mobile app MT4, MT5 and its own app
Regulation At least one tier-1 license in the group FCA, CySEC, FSCA, FSA Seychelles

The one scalping strategy I would teach a beginner

Trade the 50 EMA pullback with RSI on the 5-minute chart of EUR/USD. In plain terms: only trade in the direction the market is already moving, wait for a small dip back to the moving average, and enter when momentum turns back your way. It is boring, repeatable, and boring is exactly what a beginner needs.

Here is the full setup, step by step, for a long (buy) trade. Flip every rule for a short.

  1. Set the chart. EUR/USD, 5-minute timeframe. Add two indicators: the 50 EMA (exponential moving average) and RSI with a period of 14.
  2. Confirm the trend. Price should be trading above the 50 EMA and the line should be sloping upward. No clear slope means no trade. Sit on your hands.
  3. Wait for the pullback. Let price drift back down toward the 50 EMA. At the same time RSI should cool off to around 40 to 45, not crash to oversold. That is a pause in an uptrend, not a reversal.
  4. Take the entry. Enter a buy when a 5-minute candle closes back above the 50 EMA while RSI turns up through 50.
  5. Set the stop-loss. Place it a few pips below the low of the pullback. In the example below that is 12 pips.
  6. Set the take-profit. Target 1.5 times your risk. If your stop is 12 pips, your target is 18 pips.
  7. Risk 1% per trade. Never more. This single rule keeps you in the game long enough to get good.

Worked example. EUR/USD is in a clean uptrend on the 5-minute chart. Price pulls back to the 50 EMA at 1.0850, RSI dips to 42, then a candle closes back above the EMA as RSI turns up. You buy at 1.0850. Stop-loss at 1.0838 (12 pips). Take-profit at 1.0868 (18 pips). On a $500 account risking 1%, that is $5 at risk, so you trade about 0.04 lots (roughly $0.40 per pip). If the target hits, you make about $7.20. If the stop hits, you lose about $4.80. Small numbers on purpose. Do this 200 times before you judge it.

Rule Setting
Pair and timeframe EUR/USD, 5-minute
Indicators 50 EMA + RSI(14)
Entry (long) Candle closes above 50 EMA, RSI turns up through 50 after a dip to 40-45
Stop-loss A few pips below the pullback low (about 12 pips)
Take-profit 1.5x the stop distance (about 18 pips)
Risk per trade 1% of the account, no exceptions

Scalping is high-risk and fast. You will get stopped out often, and that is normal. The edge is not winning every trade, it is winning slightly more than you lose while keeping each loss tiny. If a strategy promises anything else, it is selling you a dream, not a plan.

How to start on Exness step by step

Opening and funding an account in Ghana takes about ten minutes, most of which is verification. Here is the exact order I tell people in the community to follow.

  1. Sign up. Go to Exness, register with your email, and choose Ghana as your country.
  2. Verify. Upload a Ghana Card or passport and a proof of address. Verification usually clears within the hour.
  3. Open a demo first. Practice the 50 EMA pullback strategy for at least 30 days. This part is not optional.
  4. Deposit with mobile money. Fund a live account with MTN MoMo, Telecel Cash or AirtelTigo Money in cedis. Start with $50 to $100.
  5. Place the scalp. Set your entry, then set the stop-loss and take-profit before you confirm the trade. Never enter without both.
  6. Withdraw regularly. Pull profits back to mobile money often. Money in your MoMo wallet is real, money on a trading screen is a rumour.

How much can you realistically make

Realistically, a disciplined beginner in Ghana might grow a $100 account by 5% to 15% a month once they are consistent, which is a few dollars, not a rent cheque. Most beginners lose money in their first year. Broker risk disclosures mandated by ESMA show that 74% to 89% of retail CFD accounts lose money. Read that number twice before you fund anything.

Account size Realistic monthly return (consistent trader) In USD
$100 5% to 15% $5 to $15
$500 5% to 15% $25 to $75
$1,000 5% to 15% $50 to $150
$5,000 5% to 10% $250 to $500

Those percentages assume you already trade well. In month one you are learning, so plan to lose or break even. The traders who last treat the first year as tuition, not income. That framing alone will save you more money than any indicator.

When forex trading is not for you

Forex is not for you if you need this month’s rent from it, if you cannot sit through a losing streak without doubling down, or if the idea of practicing on demo for a month sounds like a waste of time. It is also not for you if you were sold on “quick money” and skipped every line above about losses. There is no shame in walking away, and there is a lot of shame in a blown account you could not afford.

Frequently asked questions

Yes. There is no law banning individuals from trading forex online in Ghana. There is simply no local regulator licensing retail brokers yet, so Ghanaians use internationally licensed brokers. The SEC of Ghana presented draft guidelines in early 2026 to change that.

How much money do I need to start forex trading in Ghana?

You can technically open a live account from about $10, but $50 to $100 is a more realistic first deposit. Only trade money you can afford to lose. Spend your first month on a free demo account before funding anything.

Which broker is best for forex trading in Ghana?

The best broker for most Ghanaians is one that accepts Ghana, takes mobile money in cedis, and holds a strong offshore license. Exness fits all three, with MTN MoMo, Telecel and AirtelTigo funding and group regulation from the FCA, CySEC and FSCA. Always compare spreads and test withdrawals with a small amount first.

Do forex traders pay tax in Ghana?

Ghana taxes income, and trading profits can fall under that. Tax treatment for retail forex is still developing locally, so keep records of your deposits, withdrawals and profits, and speak to a Ghanaian tax professional for your specific situation. Do not treat this article as tax advice.

Can I fund a forex account with MTN Mobile Money in Ghana?

Yes. Brokers that serve Ghana, including Exness, support MTN Mobile Money, Telecel Cash and AirtelTigo Money for both deposits and withdrawals in cedis. Transactions are usually near-instant, which is one reason mobile money is the default funding method for most Ghanaian traders.

Is forex trading profitable for beginners in Ghana?

Rarely in the first year. Most beginners lose money because they overtrade, use too much leverage, and skip demo practice. It becomes realistically profitable only after you can follow one strategy with strict 1% risk and a full trading journal. Treat early losses as tuition.

How long does it take to become a profitable forex trader?

For most people it takes six months to two years of consistent, journaled practice to trade profitably. There is no fixed timeline, and anyone promising you a few weeks is selling a course, not the truth. Speed here is the enemy of survival.

Two more resources before you go. If you want to see how the same scalping idea works on other markets, read our guides on forex trading in Nigeria and forex trading in Kenya, and the broader crypto and forex trading hub for the full toolkit. And before you send money anywhere that promises fixed daily returns, read how to spot a Ponzi scheme, because Ghana has seen plenty.

If you read this far, you already take this more seriously than most people who will fund an account tomorrow and blow it by Friday. Go slow, keep your risk at 1%, and let the boring plan do the heavy lifting.
